What did I learn yesterday? Yesterday afternoon Keeler School held it's “Keeler's Got Talent” Talent Show, hosted and performed by a bunch of amazing Keeler students. We had singers, songwriters, dancers, martial artists, mathematicians (yes!), artists, magicians and comedians. As a principal, it reinforced that students are not blank slates coming to school to be filled up. They bring hopes, dreams, skills, abilities, talents, and even their own thoughts… (gasp!) And yes, even Kindergarten students have their own talents and thoughts! We had a ton of Kindergarten students perform singing and dancing. All I could say was “Wow!” As educators, we need to continually take into account what students bring with them and then design and implement learning opportunities that allow our kids to not only work on and develop important skills, but to actually utilize their talents and, at the end of the day, be able to say that they had to “think” today… |
In other words, I learned that every day at every one of our schools needs to be a “TALENT SHOW” DAY…
