Grade 4 TLC Students (Chief Justice Milvain School)
Did you know that words can be worth money? The least expensive word is a one-cent word. These are very common words that almost everyone knows (ex. it). The most expensive word of all is a ONE DOLLAR WORD! These are words that none of our classmates have heard before and even many adults don’t know the meaning of (ex. convivial). It is exciting when we find one of these words!
We have been demonstrating our word knowledge through our friends Mr. and Mrs. Stick (http://corbettharrison.com/Mr_Stick.html). Personifying a word or turning it into a superhero and/or villain are our favourite ways. For example:
- Captain Contamination retreats to his secret headquarters in the depths of the landfill where he creates machines that fill the Earth with filthy pollution.
- Each morning Mrs. Re Pugnant loved to chew her toe nails and knit a revolting sweater out of her belly button lint.
- Mrs. I. M. Personate is a spy whose job is to kidnap criminals and mimic their looks to destroy their evil plans.
Extraordinary words are everywhere! We found them in books, in newspaper articles, online, on TV, and even when listening to others’ conversations. We think you should take some time to find some expensive words. Good luck!
